Coach the whole
Since I left the police in April and stepped out into private coaching practice I have become aware of peoples wish to prefix ‘coach’ with a label so they can easily file you in their services directory. They will ask ‘What sort of coach are you? A business coach? A life coach?’
I find this challenging to answer. My qualification is in Performance Coaching. My business card says Executive Coach but it also says Organisational Development Consultant. I guess it’s the OD aspect that causes my uncertainty in answering. As an OD practitioner I will consider the whole system; the strategy, the policies, the processes, the people, the culture and this is the approach I bring to my coaching.
When working with a client; the business issues they are seeking to address often have causes elsewhere in their life or business and small adjustments to these causes can bring about significant improvement and resolution of issues.
So, isn’t it therefore logical to consider the whole person and the system they are within?
